GE Wants to Close Technology Gender Gap

According to the Wall Street Journal, GE is hosting summer immersion program for girls at its software headquarters. The Girls Who Code program aims to close the gender gap in the technology sector. The participating girls will receive 250 hours of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) instruction.

According to the University of Buffalo, a new paper published in the current issue of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly shows that social media effectively levels the playing field for non-profits. The study determined that the use of technology can help even the smallest grassroots organization gain donations, raise its profile and get volunteers.

Fundraising Not Just for Non-profits Anymore

The rise of crowdfunding is, in some ways, taking the word fundraising from the non-profit sectors, reports the NonProfit Times. Previously, fundraising meant strictly raising funds for a non-profit organization, but with the advent of crowdfunding the word can be applied to for profit organizations seeking funding through a crowdfunding platform.
