WebThriftStore
“Turning excess stuff into cash for charities” is the mission statement of WebThriftStore. WebThriftStore is a new way to use online shopping to benefit your favorite charity. People want to help their favorite charities, but sometimes they don’t have cash to give directly to charities, what they do have is stuff. Be it shoes, dishes or furniture Webthriftstore can help the donors convert their items into cash for their favorite charity.
How it works, first the charity registers with WebThriftStore and sets up an online storefront. Then the charity uses promotional materials provided by WebThriftsStore to spread the word to their supporters.
Next, supporters check their garages, closets and basements to see if they have any items they would like to donate. If they do, they simple logon to WebThriftStore and create a listing.
The site makes it simple for donors to list their items frequently donated items will auto fill the listing. Unusual will require the donor to fill out a donation form. After the donor creates the listing and sets the purchase price the items becomes available for sale in the charity’s online store.
Keep in mind; this is not an auction site. While the donor sets the sale price, the money generated from the sale of the item benefits the charity.
Supporters let their friends/family know about their items and when someone purchases the item, the charity gets the proceeds. The donor gets rid of an item that they no longer want and the buyer scores the awesome vintage purse (or whatever) they’ve always wanted.
Once the sale is complete, the donor is responsible for shipping the item, via a prepaid label, to the buyer.
WebThriftStore works for any size charity, but especially for smaller charities that don’t have room to hold inventory. In addition to freeing up space, with WebThriftStore charities don’t have to worry about inventory, a storefront or returns (those are handled by WebThriftStore). Charities can even send out donor acknowledgement letters via the site.
While donors can donate practically anything there are a few restrictions, such as donations must be tangible goods (not services) and cannot be items such as recalled products, unauthorized (pirated) Media or counterfeit items, or weapons. The site does have a minimum price an item can be ($5.00) and a maximum price $5,000.
WebThriftStore makes it easy to spread the word via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Charities don’t even have to worry about providing a guarantee that is handled by WebThriftStore. Their 30-Day Buyer Assurance Guarantee requires an item must be substantially as described. If it is not, WebThriftStore will accept a return and refund the buyer's money.
WebThriftStore is free to all. There are no up-front fees to our charity partners, to donors, or to buyers. Fees are only paid for transactions that generate revenue for the charity.
WebThriftStore offers charities 80/20 split. 80% proceeds to charity and WebThriftStore keeps 20% for credit card fees, returns/storage, and administrative fees.
