Review: Great Feats

greatfeatsIf an organization wants to reach new supporters and grow as a business, social media is a must. It is no longer OK to just have a Facebook page; a nonprofit must also keep their supporters interested in their organization by tweets, posts, and updates. Great Feats, a social engagement platform understands how social media works, and what makes a video, picture, or post go viral. Great Feats manipulates this formula to create a platform aimed at increasing a nonprofit’s presence on social media. While social media does have their set backs, with the right hashtag or following it has the potential to catapult a nonprofit from previously being unknown to trending in a matter of days if not hours.

#ShowerStrike; #WaterThx; #FurryBFF are all names of some of these projects spearheaded by Great Feats. Also known as “challenges” Great Feats encompasses real-life challenges (think the Ice Bucket Challenge) with peer-to-peer fundraising and social media to raise awareness and profits for their customers.

In Use:
According to their press release Great Feats, “is designed to help nonprofits acquire and engage supporters and deepen understanding of their cause…” . By creating hashtags and challenges on social media, Great Feats attempts to spread their nonprofits’ messages to a larger audience in hopes of reaching new supporters and increasing donations in a fun and unique way.

This method has worked for numerous nonprofits that have used Great Feats to start a challenge on social media. Well Aware has benefited numerous times by Great Feats’ platform with substantial success. Well Aware is a nonprofit that raises funds and administers water systems in Africa where water can be scarce or undrinkable. By using Great Feats, they created the #WaterThx Challenge to raise awareness for these water systems. The challenge was simple; post a selfie with a sign thanking water and/or give Well Aware a $10 donation. By doing this Well Aware hoped to engage younger supporters and boost attention for their cause. At the end of their campaign, Well Aware raised $1,995 and reached over 135,000 people on social media.

Why are these campaigns so important? Like product marketing or content marketing, experimental or engagement marketing is just as crucial to any business, especially to nonprofits. The number of nonprofits today are on the rise, and making sure that they are engaged in social media is incredibly important in today’s social media saturated society. It’s not enough anymore to just have a webpage. A business in general must have a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube account to keep their followers’ attention.

Ease of Use:
Great Feats subscriptions come with built-in templates, designs, and dashboards. Users who are not technology savvy will benefit the most by this, while others will like how easy it is to get started.

Technology Used:
Limited technology is needed for a nonprofit organization to use Great Feats. With a subscription starting at $500 a month, charities can secure donations with receipts, track fundraising goals, and receive a built in dashboard to see the progress of their campaign.

Recap:
Great Feats is a social engagement platform aimed at nonprofits and businesses to create challenges to improve awareness for a particular cause or business. Pricing is straightforward and comes in three different plans for nonprofits ranging from $500 a month to $1,500 a month. Each subscription comes with a 30-day free trial.

Advances:
  • 30-day free trial
  • Engage current donors while securing new donors
  • Raise awareness for one’s cause
  • Utilize social media- something that many nonprofits have a hard time doing
  • Includes tracking system, a dashboard, and templates within the price of the plan

  • Disadvantage:
  • $500 is a lot of money for a smaller nonprofit especially if you’re only raising $2,000 for your cause
  • If you have social media savvy volunteers a nonprofit could essentially create and manage their own challenge without the use of Great Feats

  • My Opinion:
Great Feats is a great idea, and considering Well Aware has done multiple campaigns with them it speaks to their knowledge and success. I do think that $500 is expensive especially if a campaign is only raising $2,000. One can argue that anyone could make a hashtag challenge without this tool, but Great Feats does a good job of providing tracking information, guidance, and templates for those who may not know the ins-and-outs of social media.
