Treasury and IRS Rule Changes Affect Global Grantmaking
U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS have recommended a significant change in the process for determining whether a foreign nongovernmental organization (NGO) meets U.S. standards for charitable giving. In "Reliance Standards for Making Good Faith Determinations," a document published today in the Federal Register, Treasury and the IRS have proposed regulations that lessen the administrative and financial burdens for U.S. grantmakers to engage in international philanthropy. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the guidance in an address at the Clinton Global Initiative, during which she unveiled the Global Philanthropy Working Group.

The Nonprofit Research Collaborative (NRC) finds a direct association between active fundraising by nonprofit board members and the organization meeting its fundraising goals. Sixty percent of organizations where board members help with fundraising met their 2011 fundraising goal, compared with just 53 percent of organizations without board member engagement, a statistically significant difference given the sample size.

Sage North America plans to integrate a cloud-based application from MobileCause with its fundraising products. The deal will enable Sage to provide mobile fundraising applications to nonprofit customers. Tom Thornton New COO at JMT Consulting
During the summer, Tom Thornton became chief operating officer at JMT Consulting, a reseller specializing in nonprofit accounting. Thornton had been VP of business development from April 2011 through July and moved to the COO spot of the Patterson, N.Y.-based company in June (apparently with a month of overlap). Thornton was JMT's VP of sales from 2010 through July 2010 and then took the position of VP of community solutions with Nfocus Software before returning. Meanwhile (catching up on news that didn't come to my attention) in May former JMT president Kent Hollrah took the position of Orange Leap, where his job is as "chief architect of the partner program" according to his LinkedIn page.

Blackbaud announced the appointment of Joseph (Joe) D. Moye as president of its Enterprise Customer Business Unit (ECBU). Moye will replace Gene Austin, who has decided to leave Blackbaud effective September 7th to pursue new opportunities. Moye will begin his Blackbaud tenure on October 1st and will be based at the company's Austin, Texas location
