Revisit Text-to-Give

Text-to-GiveIf your organization tried a Text-to-Give campaign years ago, and unhappy with the wait time to receive your funds never ran a text-to-give campaign again. Perhaps it is time to take another look at using text to give as part of your overall fundraising strategy.

First, text to give has improved in how quickly organizations can receive the funds. In years past, the only way to have donors give via text was to add it to their cell phone bill. That meant that nonprofits had to wait for the cell phone carrier to collect the funds and then forward them to their organization. Now, donations can be received much faster via text message. Organizations have donors text a specific ‘shortcode’ to a number. From there donors are sent a link via text message. The link directs donors to the organization’s mobile friendly donation page. The donors simply input their credit card information and complete the gift.

Second, adding texting capabilities to your organization now means a lot more than just raising funds. Texting is now a platform to reach your supporters and volunteers quickly and easily.

In addition to contacting donors and volunteers to provide them with information you can use text messaging to get information from your donors. Use text surveys to perform market research on your donors. Use a text message ‘opt-in’ code to do data collection. This can help you ensure your donor information is good, by verifying address, and other personal donor information.

Your organization can use text messaging as a way to manage events with giving attendees a way to RSVP to events via text. It can also help you organize your volunteers for an event.

And lastly, text messaging is a great way to market your nonprofit. There a specific text messaging marketing services that can help your organization increase your donor base.
