Instagram and the Non-profit

Instagram is a social media site dedicated to sharing photos and videos. Currently, it has around 150 Million worldwide and continues to grow in popularity. So, how can a non-profit harness the power of Instagram? Its simple, just take a few minutes to download the app on your smartphone and you are ready to go.

With a variety of available filters, the app lets even the most amateur photographer take stunning pictures. You no longer need a dedicated photographer, with the app, everyone in the organization is able to capture powerful pictures of the organization in action and quickly share them with supporters.

In addition to making it easy to take good-looking pictures, Instagram makes it easy to share the pictures to your existing social network accounts by linking directly to Facebook, Twitter, Flikr, and Tumblr. Instagram lets you assign keywords to images via hash tags.

You can also link your Instagram account with your website, but keep in mind it works best with mobile friendly sites.

Use the app to show the behind the scenes activities of your organization, the daily lives of those you help or share statistics and facts about your organization.

Organizations can take photos during events or encourage their members to take photos and post them with Instagram. Consider using the app for your next charity auction, not only can you take pictures of the event you can use Instagram to post pictures or videos of the auction items.

The app also supports videos, albeit very short videos just 15 seconds, but you can certainly make an impact in 15 seconds.
