Omidyar Network Supports Technology-Centered Organizations

Omidyar Network announced today its intent to grant up to $3M to six leading organizations focused on advancing government transparency and accountability.  The organizations are:  Association for Democratic Reforms (India), Co-Creation Hub (Nigeria), Fundacion Ciudadano Inteligente (Chile), Mideast Youth (Bahrain), Centre UA  (Ukraine), and Open Knowledge Foundation (UK).

Game Teaches Kids 8 to 12 How to Stay Safe on the Internet

A new game is now available for kids between the ages of 8 and 12 that is not only fun but also teaches them how to stay safer while on the Internet.  The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Sprint (NY SE: S) announced today, just in time for the return to school, that the popular child-focused Internet safety website www.NSTeens.org has been expanded to include a new educational game created for the important "in between" or "tween" audience of 8 to 12 year olds.   Read more...

Recycling Old Gadgets and Empty Print Cartridges Benefits Schools and Nonprofits

Reports by the National Association of State Budget Officers in 2010 estimate that nationwide K-12 budgets were cut by $1.8 billion and anticipate $2.5 billion in cuts for fiscal year 2012. Approximately 23 states have made "identifiable, deep" cuts in pre-k and/or K-12 education, according to the Center on Budget Policies and Priorities.
