Live video streaming your event

livestreamAre you still on the fence about live streaming an event? How about if I told you that livestreaming video is the most popular form of video content on the web today. This is supported by research. Researchers studied social media users’ preferences and found that  people prefer watching videos to reading.

Of those participating in the study 80% of respondents reported that they would rather watch a live video from a brand than read a blog post. In addition, 82% prefer a live video from a brand over any other form of social media post.

While you can use specific live streaming apps, most of live stream videos are created and shared via the major social media apps such as Facebook (Live), YouTube and Instagram.

But wait, before you click record, there are a few things your organization needs decide. First, you need to determine what platform will give your video the most exposure. Next determine what device you will use for the recording, will it be with a mobile phone, iPad, camera or some other recording device.

Once you have the mechanics of how to create the live-stream determine what you will be streaming. You most likely won’t want or be able to live stream the whole event, so focus on an important part of the event such as the keynote address, awards presentation or a prize drawing.

You could also do live interviews with attendees or guests, or you could set up a booth and allow people to come up and tell how your organization impacted their lives. If your interviewing a special guest or panel members, you can incorporate comments that you receive from your viewers.

After you have finalized your plans for what to livestream, it is time to build a buzz, let your followers know that you will be live streaming from your event.

At the event make sure you have a good wi-fi connection, otherwise your video won’t upload seamlessly. Take the time to make sure where your filming is well lit and that you can have good audio.
